UFC 218: Holloway vs. Aldo 2  will be held on December 2, 2017 at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan. The will mark the 3rd visit to the Metro Detroit area, the first being UFC 123 in November 2010 and the event will be the first visit at the newly-built arena.

Initially A UFC Featherweight Championship bout between current champion Max Holloway and former UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar was expected to headline the event. However, on November 11, Edgar was forced to withdraw due to an injury, in stepped former WEC Featherweight Champion and former two-time champion José Aldo. Holloway and Aldo met previously at UFC 212, with Holloway being victorious by 2nd round TKO to become the featherweight champion.

In the co-main event heavyweight veteran Alistair Overeem will face fellow KO artist Francis Ngannou. With Overeem currently sitting atop of the UFC Official rankings as the number one title contender, he will look to keep that position with a win over his opponent to get another crack at Stipe Miocic and the heavyweight world title. Ngannou made his promotional debut December 19, 2015 at UFC on Fox 17 winning by second round knockout and he has not looked back. Since entering the promotion he has gone 5-0, finishing all of his opponent and with a victoey he hopes to have “punched” his own ticket to a title shot.
